These instructions demonstrate how to publish a blogpost to the MicroGlobalScope website.

Logging In

Click on the “Member-Log-in” button at the top right of the MicroGlobalScope website and enter your username and password (on your welcome letter) to login. You can also choose the language of your WordPress Dashboard at log in. If you don’t see one, you can request one and we will do our best to accomodate you. Not all languages are provided for WordPress.

Once logged in, you will see a “dashboard” containing your recent drafts, a message box containing the latest news  of information for schools, and some icons on the left hand side. To change your password, click on the “profile” link (the bottom icon on the left) and add a new password.

2. Adding a school profile picture and bio

To add your school’s photo and bio, go to the profile section, and fill in a biography and upload a photo. Once you upload a photo, you’ll be prompted to crop the image to a square size – the square version will be used as your picture whenever you write comment.

3. Writing a Post

To write a blog post, click on “new post” up the top of your screen, or in the left sidebar. This will take you to a post page. The page has several parts – a title, the body of the text, an “upload videos” box, a “tags” box, a “categories” box and a “publish” box. You can also upload images by clicking on the “Add Media” button.

We’ll get to tags and categories in a little while, but for now let’s look at the most important part of blogging – sharing your  photos and videos.

3.1 Adding Photos

3.2 Featured Images

Due to the nature of the blog setup, the images that flow from your page to the homepage must be 220×220 pixels. If you are posting an image that is larger than this or a video only post, you must if you are uploading a video only post you must “Set a Featured Image”.

Your featured image will not appear in your post. It will only appear on the home page.

3.3 Adding Videos

To add a video, click the “Upload a video” in the “BITSONTHERUN” panel, add a title in the “title” box then click upload. Depending on how long your video is, it may take a few minutes to upload. Once it has uploaded, it will appear at the top of your videos list. Click the title of your video to add it to your post.

3.4 Tags

Tags are descriptive keywords that you add to your post, allowing people to easily find posts based on what they are interested in. The photos on the website are categorized into 5 types: bugs and insects, plants and fungi, materials, food and cells.

To add a tag, write your descriptive keyword(s) in the “tags” panel and click “add”. You must click add, otherwise your tag will not be added.

3.5 Categories are your site!

Categories are how we’ve broken down the site to single out your school (and shuttle your images to the front page). All posts for your school must have your school category. Select the category by checking the boxes in the “categories” panel.
