Fiber hunt, part II

We continued our research on the same things like we did in the last research, but we used a different microscope (MiScope). We were watching at our clothes and our friend’s cheek and we spotted that his beard was growing. :)

Fiber hunt

Wool and hemp are the most common materials in our national handicraft. We watched through the microscope pieces of wool, hemp and our Serbian note. We saw that they were composed of lots of fibers. We think that it’s because they get on their strength. (Muscular cells are grouped for the same reason.)

Rain days

It started raining in Belgrade. It gave us an idea. We took a sample of the rain from a little pond near our school. We think that we saw algae cells.

Gretings from Belgrade

Team from our school

First we went to the Botanic Garden. There we took photos of the Pancic omorika. Than we went to  Miljakovac forest which is near our school. We were looking for an insect called Trculjak, which is a protected species, but we didn’t find it. Then we took photos of plants. After that we went to the Topciderka River where we took samples of its water. That is all we did that day.

Picea

Picea branches

Picea leaves

Picea omorika is a coniferous tree species in the family Pinaceae which grows in a very   small area in the nature, but is widespread in the parks throughout Europe and North America. It is used as a Christmas tree. It was discovered on Tara Mountain in 1875 by the botanist Joseph Pancic . That is a protected species.

Sparrow is the little brown bird.

A sparrow is a songbird that inhabits large parts of Europe and Asia. In Serbia they call it “a house sparrow”. It is a symbol of our town. Today it is the most common birds in the world. It lived only in Europe and Asia but people took it to the rest of the world. The total number of sparrows in Europe is between 130 and 270 million.

Liana

We went to  Miljakovac forest and took pictures of different plant species. We managed to find fern only in coniferous forest area, just like the hellebore. There were lots of ferns in heaps but they were rare. Unlike the ferns, hellebore were spread a lot. Fern was easy to spot because it was bright green.

Water research

Although many people think that Belgrade lies on two rivers, there is a third one, the Topciderka. It is  small and very polluted because waste fromthe sewage is flowing into it. While we were watching the samples from the river through a microscope, we saw something and we think those are the algae cells. You could see it there.

We microscoped  lymph from my finger. We saw a lot of white blood cells.
